Washington, DC - The Arthur M. Sackler Gallery, part of the Smithsonian Institution, hosted a week-long series of special events and festivities to celebrate the highly-anticipated launch of the "MURAQQA': Imperial Mughal Albums from the Chester Beatty Library, Dublin" U.S. tour.

A week of Press Previews, receptions, and a Members' Gala at the Museum, culminated in the Sackler's Friends' Reception on the evening of May 3rd.  In attendance were representatives from the Sackler Gallery, Art Services International, His Excellency Michael Collins, the Ambassador of Ireland to the United States of America and Honorary Patron of the Exhibition, as well as representatives from the Chester Beatty Library in Dublin, including its Director, Dr. Michael Ryan and Dr. Elaine Wright, the exhibition's Curator.  Speeches were given by both Dr. Ryan and Dr. Julian Raby, Director of the Sackler, in honor of the show's U.S. premier.

"MURAQQA': Imperial Mughal Albums from the Chester Beatty Library, Dublin" received over 7,300 visitors over the show's opening weekend at the Sackler Gallery.  The exhibition will be on view there through August 3rd, 2008, and will then travel to the Detroit Institute of Arts.
