As the First Place winner for BEST ILLUSTRATED TEXT in the division of Small- to- Medium- Size Nonprofit Publishers, "MURAQQA'" competed against the other First Place winners in all other design categories (including Best Illustrated Cover or Jacket, Best Typographic Cover or Jacket, Best Typographic Text, and Best Technical Text), as well as against the winners in all divisions -- including Commercial Publishers and Large Nonprofit Publishers.
"Muraqqa's" BEST OF SHOW top honor was awarded at The Washington Book Publishers Annual Design Award Ceremony held on June 11th in downtown Washington. The judges praised Designer, Lynne Komai, on her bold and powerful cover and the effectiveness of the book’s opening pages, which set the stage for the reader. Compliments were also given on the catalogue’s decorative use of the album details, the rich use of gold throughout the book, and the incorporation of Persian calligraphy within the catalouge text.
ASI is delighted to be the recipient of these two exciting awards, and happily shares the accolades for this book with its exceptional partners: the Chester Beatty Library, the owner of the works of art, and the Annenberg Foundation, which generously supported its creation.
Additional support for the national tour has been provided by Culture Ireland, The E. Rhodes and Leona B. Carpenter Foundation, and an indemnity from the Federal Council on the Arts and the Humanities.
